Beyond Just the Bricks

The next Workshop Wednesday takes place on 22 July 2026, from 17:00 to 19:00, with a relaxed evening of conversation, connection and community giving.

This month’s theme, Beyond Just the Bricks, asks a timely question: What changes when spaces are designed around people first?

The discussion will be led by Andries Pretorius and Etienne Maritz of Bow&Arc, co‑founders of Volley, Pretoria’s premium student accommodation. Workshop17 is currently collaborating with Bow&Arc on Workshop17 Hazelwood, the brand’s first purpose‑built location. Together, they share a vision of spaces that make it easier for people to meet, work, collaborate and feel part of a community.

Community‑first spaces

Pretorius and Maritz will explore how community‑first thinking transforms the way people use spaces — from student living to shared workspaces, mixed‑use precincts and after‑hours gathering spots. The conversation will resonate with entrepreneurs, creatives, designers, property thinkers and anyone curious about how the places we spend time in shape the way we work, meet and belong.

This isn’t a sit‑and‑listen lecture. It’s an invitation to step out after work, meet like‑minded people, exchange ideas and leave with something worth reflecting on. Expect wine, delicious snacks, an easy networking environment and a speaker session designed to spark dialogue.

Every ticket sold will support Tswalo House, which makes each seat in the room matter.”

At each Workshop Wednesday, 100% of ticket sales are donated to the speaker’s chosen charity. This month, proceeds go to Tswalo House, an impact organisation that relies on community generosity to provide essentials such as baby formula, nappies, medical check‑ups and 24‑hour specialised care.
